About this art form
Block printing is a centuries-old technique where hand-carved wooden blocks are dipped in dye and stamped repeatedly onto fabric to create patterns. Rajasthan is the heartland of Indian block printing, with distinct traditions in Jaipur (Sanganer and Bagru). Sanganer prints are known for delicate floral patterns on white fabric, while Bagru prints feature bold geometric designs using dabu (mud-resist) technique. Natural dyes from indigo, pomegranate rind and madder root give the textiles their earthy palette.
