About ArtisticHues

For the people who still make things by hand.

ArtisticHues is a marketplace for handmade work by Indian artists — both centuries-old regional traditions and contemporary studios. Every piece names its maker, shows their hands at work, and sends most of the price to them directly.

Why this exists

Most marketplaces forget the maker.

In the age of AI, almost everything around us has become frictionless to produce: an image in a second, a song in a minute, a whole catalog of furniture in an afternoon. The things that get harder to find are the ones that still take time — a single Tanjore panel that took 14 hours of gold-foil work, a Pashmina shawl that took 18 months of hand-spinning, a studio mug whose fingerprints are quite literally the maker’s.

This platform is a home for that kind of work. We built it so the people who still make things by hand can sell directly to the people who care about how something was made — without a chain of middlemen taking a cut on the way through.

What we promise artists

Three commitments, plainly stated.

Most of the price reaches the maker.
Our current platform fee is 3.5% of the product price. No middleman markup, no quiet fees on top, no listing charges, no subscription. The rest goes to the artist directly. If we ever change the rate, the buyer sees it on the product page before they check out.
Every piece names its maker.
Every listing carries the artist’s name, their region, their hours of work on the piece, their own description of what they made and why. When the artist supplies a making-of video, we show it. No anonymous “handicrafts.” No interchangeable workshop badges. A real person, a real place, a real story — every time.
Open to every kind of art.
From a 4,000-year-old regional tradition like Dhokra bronze-casting to a studio ceramicist who opened her wheel in 2019. From a master Pashmina weaver with 30 years behind him to an illustrator selling small-edition risograph prints. Handmade is the criterion. Formal training is not required; tradition is not required. The work being made by a person, by hand, in India — that is.

Who’s behind this

A small team in India.

ArtisticHues was founded out of conversations with regional artisans who told us they wanted a place to sell their work directly to people who would understand it — not through layers of resellers, not via export agents, not on marketplaces where they couldn’t even put their face on the listing. The platform is small today; our hope is to grow it slowly enough that the artists who built it with us stay at the centre.

Get in touch

We read every message.

If you’re an artist wanting to list, a buyer with a question, a writer with a story to suggest, or someone who spotted something we got wrong — please write to us. The team is small enough that a real person sees every email.
