About this Art Form
Phulkari, meaning 'flower work', is an embroidery technique from Punjab where colourful silk threads are stitched onto coarse cotton fabric (khaddar) using a simple darning stitch worked from the reverse side. Traditionally created by women for weddings and festivals, the designs range from geometric motifs to floral patterns in striking colour combinations. When the embroidery covers the entire fabric, it is called Bagh (garden).
