About this art form
Warli painting is one of the oldest forms of Indian art, practised by the Warli tribe in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra. Using only white pigment made from rice paste on an austere mud base, Warli artists depict scenes of daily life — harvesting, dancing, hunting — through simple geometric shapes: circles, triangles and squares. The art celebrates the harmony between humans and nature and has been recognised internationally for its minimalist beauty.
